French replenishment vessel Jacques Chevallier to join its future homeport

According to a PR published by Naval Group on March 20, 2023, the replenishment vessel Jacques Chevallier of the FlotLog program left its builder's port in Saint-Nazaire to begin a new phase of sea trials before joining its future homeport in Toulon.

After being put on keel in December 2021, floated in April 2022, and the flag-raising ceremony on March 3, 2023, the BRF Jacques Chevallier took a new step by leaving its builder's port before being received by the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) on behalf of the General Armament Directorate (DGA), and delivered to the French Navy in the summer of 2023.

The ship will now be under the command of a French Navy crew. In the short term, the vessel will sail towards Toulon, its future homeport, where it will arrive at the end of March.

About the BRF Jacques Chevallier

The BRF has a displacement of 31,000 metric tons (full load), a length of 194 meters (636 feet 6 inches), a beam of 27.4 meters (89 feet 11 inches), and a draft of 9 meters (29 feet 6 inches).

The ship has a speed of 20 knots (37 kilometers per hour; 23 miles per hour) and can operate at 10 knots (19 kilometers per hour; 12 miles per hour) on its electric engines.

She has a range of 7,000 nautical miles (13,000 kilometers; 8,100 miles) at 16 knots (30 kilometers per hour; 18 miles per hour) and an endurance of 30 days.

The replenishment vessel is armed with two 2x2 Simbad-RC/Mistral Mk3 surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles and two Thales/Nexter 40 mm RAPIDFire guns.
