The USS James E Williams carries a fearsome arsenal of firepower, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, air-launched torpedoes and anti-ship missiles.
With four gas turbine engines, it can reach speeds of up to 30 knots. The US Navy destroyer also has 360° vision, which enables it to track up to 800 targets more than 200 miles away.
USS James E Williams is the flagship of Standing Nato Maritime Group 2, the alliance's multinational task group in the Mediterranean Sea.
