The team of Royal Navy submariners taking on the 'world's toughest row' across the Atlantic Ocean are closing in on the finish line.

HMS Oardacious set off from the Canary Islands on 12 December to take on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge – a 3,000-mile row across the ocean.

A post from the team's LinkedIn page said, "based on recent progress the tracker predicts that the guys are due to land in Antigua tomorrow (Monday) at 21:55 local time, which is 01:55 Tuesday in the UK so perhaps a late night for UK-based dot watchers that haven't managed to make it over to the island".

The first team to finish the challenge and be crowned this year's Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge fastest were Team Ocean Cats.

They crossed the finish line on Friday (13 January) with a time of 31 days, 17 hours and 9 minutes, in the process becoming the first-ever Spanish team to win the rowing event.

HMS Oardacious will hope to hold off four teams "hot on their tail" in the final stretch.

In their latest update, HMS Oardacious said: "With a mere 97 Nautical Miles left until Antigua – the team are SO close!

"But they need to keep pushing – the Row Hard or Go Home fours team are hot on their tail, having just passed the Ambrose Buoys – they're not giving up without a fight!!"

The crew will land in the south of Antigua before heading across the finish line and touching land at Nelson's dockyard. "And it will be a fight," the Royal Navy submariners team added.

"The wind assistance is becoming less and less so their strength will be an important aspect rather than their angles to the wind," they said.

Regardless of the time of arrival, it will be live-streamed on the Atlantic Campaigns YouTube page, a link will be available on their socials around one to two hours before landing.

Team Atlantic Guardsmen is another one of the military teams competing this year.

The team is made up of serving members of the Scots Guards, both officers and soldiers and, hearing that family and friends have started arriving in Antigua, it has sent the team's "morale rocketing".

In their latest update, they said: "We've received the ETA for Atlantic Guardsmen to make landfall!! With just 400 nautical miles of this crossing left to row, the finish is well and truly in their sights."

Military personnel and veterans are among the record number of entrants who entered the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge this year.

All looked to battle sleep deprivation, hallucinations and hunger to take on the unique experience of crossing an ocean in a rowing boat.

The importance of mental mindfulness has been highlighted by a lot of the crews taking on this dangerous challenge.

Team 'Fight Oar Die' exemplified the dangers of the challenge.

The All-American team of four military veterans were 16 days into the 3,000-mile challenge when they capsized as a result of a wave, but have since safely returned to dry land.
