My friend coming over from HMNZS Canterbury F-421 to HMCS Mackenzie DDE-261. The photograph was taken from the flag deck of HMCS Mackenzie, in July 1984 (the date taken is approximate). The ships were in the vicinity of the entrance to Barclay Sound.
You can see all the teak there. She is wearing a maple leaf too!
Geoff Eastwood That teak does look good. I remember in around the mid 1970s, another RNZN frigate operated on the West Coast. I’m sorry I’m not sure about her name but “Otago” rings a bell. She had the insignia of the Second Canadian Destroyer Squadron on her bridge wing. Apologies again - I don’t remember the details. Have a good day!
Ah yes the Otago. She was a Type 12 Rothesay, used to sport a Mini Moke next to her Limbo mortars! I'm sure you will remember her pennant number- F111. Sadly I never got a shot of her .
Geoff Eastwood I remember the Moke! They actually drove it around here. Cute and odd at the same time. You have a great memory, Geoff! Have a wonderful weekend!
This is an incredible photograph Alex! This looks like a tricky manoeuvre! Wonderful capture! Have a super Saturday my friend!
