The Dry docking is a term used for repairs or when a ship is taken to the service yard. During dry docking, the whole ship is brought to a dry land so that the submerged portions of the hull can be cleaned or inspected.
The USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG-108) is an Arleigh Burke-class Flight II A guided missile destroyer in service with the United States Navy using the Aegis Combat System, an American-made integrated naval weapons system.
The "Flight IIA Arleigh Burke" ships have several new features including the addition of two hangars for antisubmarine warfare (ASW) LAMPS MK III MH-60 B/R Helicopters, and a new, longer 5-inch/62-caliber (127 mm) Mark 45 Mod 4 naval gun. Later Flight IIA ships starting with USS Mustin (DDG-89) have a modified funnel design that buries the funnels within the superstructure as a signature-reduction measure. TACTAS towed array sonar was omitted from Flight IIA ships and they also lack Harpoon missile launchers.
The USS Wayne E. Meyer is powered by four General Electric LM2500-30 gas turbines driving two shafts with controllable pitch propellers. The ship can reach a top speed of 30 knots (56 km/h). She has a crew of 275 people including officers and enlisted.
The USS Wayne E. Meyer is armed with one 5 inches (127 mm)/62 caliber Mk 45 Mod 4 naval gun, two 25 mm Mk 38 automatic cannons, four .50 cal (12.7 mm) machine guns, one 20 mm Phalanx CIWS (Close-In Weapon System), two Mk 32 triple torpedo tubes able to launch MK 46/MK 50 Torpedoes, and 96-cell Mk 41 VLS (Vertical Launching System) able to fire RIM-66 Standard surface-to-air Missile 2, RIM-162 ESSM air defense missiles, BGM-109 Tomahawk land attack cruise missile, and RUM-139 VL-ASROC anti-submarine missiles.
