Mexican Marines seized 2,240 kilos of cocaine dumped in the Pacific Ocean
- The drug bust took place off last week 86 miles southeast of Acapulco, Guerrero
- Four men on a speedboat dumped the drugs after being spotted by the Marines
- The suspects made it to the shores of El Dorado Beach in San Marco and fled
Mexican marines have seized cocaine blocks worth $107million from the Pacific Ocean after it was thrown overboard by smugglers when their speedboat was intercepted.
The Mexican Secretariat of the Navy said a patrolling ship spotted the trafficker's boat during a maritime surveillance operation 86 miles southeast off the coast of the resort city of Acapulco.
Fearing that they would be captured by the Marine ship, the four drug traffickers tossed 2,240 kilos of cocaine into the ocean in a bid to speed up the getaway in their two-engine vessel.

The Mexican Marines said a speedboat with four men aboard was spotted by a ship conducting a maritime surveillance operation and requested land and aerial support before the drug traffickers dumped 2,240 kilos of cocaine into the Pacific Ocean

The drug traffickers eventually made it to El Dorado Beach, located in San Marco and abandoned the speedboat before fleeing on foot.
The soldiers recovered a total of 112 plastic wrapped bags filled with cocaine and 19 several plastic containers filled with 500 liters of fuel.

It is unknown where the drug smugglers were traveling to, but the zone is commonly used by traffickers who ferry narcotics from South America all the way to the United States.
Recent data from the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy shows that 2,806 kilos of cocaine have been seized this year.
By comparison, the Secretariat of National Defense said it has confiscated 3,377 kilos of cocaine in the same period last year.
The confiscated cocaine totaled 2,240 kilos and has a United States street value of $107million
