In the year 1900 the most famous ship in the US Navy (not named Constitution) was USS Oregon (BB-3). She gained her reputation after her famous dash from California, around Cape Horn, to join the US fleet before the Battle of Santiago de Cuba (1898) where she played a pivotal role.
