British heavy cruiser HMS Exeter off the coast of Sumatra in early 1942: she was sunk shortly thereafter following the Battle of Java Sea. Earlier war service saw her seriously damaged by the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee at the Battle of the River Plate in 1939.
