A6M Zero Engine Test (3872 x 2592).  This photo comes with an interesting story. The claim is that it was flown by Japanese pilot who was strafing crew members who had bailed out of a B-24. The A6M flew within feet of Lt. Owen Baggett, who pulled out his 45 , shot 4 slugs into the canopy, and the Zero subsequently crashed. I was not able to confirm this claim independently. It has a bit of the aura of a Ripley's Believe it or Not story. The full account is here:

Supposedly the account was taken from a 1996 issue of Air Force Magazine but I could not access the magazine online without creating a membership account, yada, yada, yada. So if anyone knows the real story, post a comment!
