6 inch gun light cruiser USS St Louis was lead ship of her class, and famously managed to get underway and escape from Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. She suffered this spectacular torpedo hit on 5 July 1943 without suffering serious casualties. Transferred to Brazil in 1951, she served as Almirante Tamandare until 1976.
