RAAF No. 237 Pilot Course graduate flypast (File Photo)
Graduation parade for six Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) officers and one Royal Australian Navy (RAN) officer who will be presented with their ‘wings’ after successfully completing Number 237 Pilots’ Course. During the parade a flypast of nine PC-9 aircraft will occur.
Where: RAAF Base Pearce, Great Northern Highway, Bullsbrook WA
When: Thursday, 4 December 2014, commencing at 10.30 am
The student pilots have undergone an intensive 38-week course to become military pilots and upon graduation will begin conversion training on operational aircraft, such as the P3 Orion, C-17 Globemaster, C-130 Hercules, Beechcraft King Air, Hawk Lead-in Fighter and VIP aircraft – the Boeing Business Jet and the Challenger C604.
The parade will be reviewed by Air Commodore Noel Derwort, CSC, Director General Engagement and Assessment.
No 2 Flying Training School (2FTS) has evolved from the original Australian Military Flying Training School. This School started training pilots on Bristol Box kites at Point Cook, Victoria, a few days after the outbreak of World War 1. Today the course at 2FTS provides training from general to advanced instrument, night, formation flying, (including navigation), using the Pilatus PC-9/A.
The unit graduates are high calibre military aviators for RAAF and RAN, capable of flying aircraft with the skill and confidence ready for transition to operational aircraft.
Flypast is subject to operational requirements and weather conditions.
