Damen Shipyards continues to see success in their naval shipbuilding business as the Mexican Navy has elected to build a seventh Stan Patrol 4207 design at the Astimar 1 naval shipyard in Tampico.
The vessel will be the seventh of the Tenochtitlan-class, four have already been built according to Damen.
In addition, Damen notes that Mexico’s Astimar 6 shipyard in Guaymas will be building a Damen Fast Crew Supplier 5009 adopted for use for naval requirements including a deck crane and extra accommodation module. The vessel will also feature the distinctive Sea Axe bow design that was developed in cooperation between Delft University in Damen.

Damen notes this wave piercing bow enables the ship to reduce slamming by up to 70 percent. In total, the FCS 5009 can transport 145 passengers and 17 crew members at speeds of up to 21 knots via power generated from four Caterpillar 3512C TA engines.
In a conversation last week with Kommer Damen, Chairman of the Damen Shipyards Group, he notes that the biggest demand for his company’s services are withing the naval sector, followed by tugs and then the offshore sector.
