Here is a timelapse video showing the recent launch of the SX121 design ‘Polar Onyx’ Offshore Construction Vessel (OSV) at the Ulstein Verft shipyard in Ulsteinvik, Norway. The ‘Polar Onyx’ is equipped with dynamic positioning DP3 and a 250t AHC offshore crane. It will have a 275t vertical lay system situated over the moon pool and is capable of installing flexible pipes and umbilicals to 3,000m water depth. The vessel is designed to operate in the SURF/Construction/IRM markets, with high capacity for flexible pipe loads. The vessel, on charter from GC Rieber Shipping, is expected to start work for Petrobras in Brazil in May 2014 following delivery this quarter. ‘Polar Onyx’ Photos Photos courtesy Ulstein Group |
