GDBIW Lands USD 7.5 Million LCS 2 Contract
General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, seated in Bath, Maine, has gained a $7.5Million modification of a previously awarded contract to deliver engineering and management services for advance planning and design in support of the post-shakedown availability for the USS Independence (LCS 2).
USS Independence stands out as the lead ship from the Independence-class of littoral combat ships. She is the sixth ship of the US Navy being named for the concept of independence. The design was developed by the General Dynamics consortium within the Navy’s LCS program, and competes with the Lockheed Martin-designed Freedom variant.
Bath Iron Works will ensure design, planning, and material support services for USS Independence.
Work is going to include program management, advance planning, engineering, design, material kitting, liaison, and scheduling.
Work will be undertaken in Bath, Maine (55percent), and San Diego, Calif. (45percent), and is expected to be completed by March 2014.
