Russia’s Northern Fleet Spokesman Vadim Serga said on Monday that the Fleet’s flagship, the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky, has spotted a foreign submarine in the Barents Sea during a recent exercise, according to RIA Novosti. The Navy has sent an ASW ship and two ASW aircrafts in international waters north of Kildin Island to track the submarine. Pyotr Veliky is going to continue practicing ASW missions in affiliation with other NF warships, including live fire exercises. Pyotr Velikiy is the fourth Kirov class battlecruiser of the Russian Navy. She is the last of the four heavy nuclear-powered missile cruisers constructed under project 1144 Orlan.
