The Singaporean Navy ship RSS Persistence (209) docked at Tien Sa Port in the Vietnamese central city of Da Nang for a six-day visit on Friday.

During their visit, the crew of 226 officers and sailors are scheduled to meet with leaders of Da Nang City People’s Committee and the Vietnam People’s Navy High Command and play in a volleyball match with officers and soldiers from Vietnam People’s Navy.

They will also visit famous tourism sites in the city.

It is the sixth time the RSS Persistence has visited Vietnam and the third time it has docked in Da Nang.

The most recent visit to the city was in October 2010.

The RSS Persistence (209) is one of four Endurance class amphibious transport docks - the biggest class of ships in the Singapore Navy.

Each ship is fitted with a well dock that can accommodate four landing crafts, as well as a flight deck which can accommodate two medium lift helicopters.

The ships provide sea transportation for personnel and equipment for Singapore Armed Forces' overseas training, as well as a training platform for Singapore Navy's midshipmen.

The ships actively participate in various multilateral exercises annually and in multinational peacekeeping efforts as well as various humanitarian relief operations.
