HMS VICTORIOUS leaving HMNB Portsmouth for sea trials after an 8 year refit in which she was almost rebuilt and significantly upgraded since her initial launch in 1939.




She would serve until 1968 when she was deleted early as part of defence cuts

Type 984 radar (Searchlight)

Type 984 was a Royal Navy radar system introduced in the mid-1950s, designed by the Admiralty Signals Research Establishment. Type 984 was a 3D S band system used for both ground controlled interception (GCI) and as a secondary early warning system. It was the most sophisticated naval radar of its era.
