RFS Marshal Ustinov Returns to Severomorsk

February 8, 2020 (Google Translation) – Today, the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser, the Vyazma medium-sized sea tanker, and the SB-406 rescue tug successfully completed long-range missions and arrived at permanent bases on the Kola Peninsula. The cruiser was moored in the main base of the Northern Fleet – Severomorsk to its regular berth, on the other side of which is the Peter the Great heavy nuclear missile cruiser.
A ceremonial rally dedicated to the arrival of the cruiser and the Northern Fleet support vessels from a long voyage took place on the parade ground of a military camp of surface ships. It was attended not only by sailors who returned from the campaign, but also the crews of all warships based in Severomorsk, as well as the fleet command, representatives of the public, regional and municipal authorities.
On returning to their home base, subordinates were congratulated by the Commander of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Alexander Moiseev. He noted the importance of the combat and operational training tasks carried out by the North Sea residents, as well as their mission to demonstrate the St. Andrew flag in foreign ports and in the World Ocean. The fleet commander thanked the crews of the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser and support vessels, and also presented awards, diplomas and gifts to distinguished naval and civilian sailors.
Also, the commander of the Northern Fleet received reports on the successful implementation of the long-range mission tasks from the commander of the cruiser Captain 1st Rank Vladimir Kuzmin and the senior on the campaign, the commander of the missile ship division of Captain 1st Rank Andrei Saloshin (the officer went on a long voyage as the chief of staff of the compound and was appointed to a higher position already at sea).
The long voyage of the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser and support vessels: the Vyazma tanker and the SB-406 tugboat lasted from July 3 and took more than 7 months (220 days). First, the North Sea arrived in Kronstadt to participate in the Main Naval Parade. After the parade, the crews of the cruiser and support vessels were involved in the training of the Russian Navy “Ocean Shield-2019”. Then, the Severomors for two months, from the end of August to the end of October, acted in the Mediterranean Sea, where they conducted a series of exercises, visited Algeria, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Cyprus.
In the Atlantic Ocean, Russian sailors made business calls at the ports of the African states of the Republic of Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa, and at the end of November conducted the first joint Russian-Chinese-South African exercise on ensuring the safety of navigation and marine economic activity. It was attended by frigates of the Naval Forces of the People’s Liberation Army of China “Weifang” and the Naval Forces of South Africa “Amatola”, as well as auxiliary vessels of the Navy of South Africa.
In the first decade of January 2020, the cruiser as a flagship took part in the joint training of the Northern and Black Sea fleets of Russia in the Black Sea. From the command post located on board, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, observed the progress of the exercise.
During the campaign, the missile cruiser “Marshal Ustinov” traveled about 42 thousand miles (this distance is more than 77 thousand kilometers, the circumference of the Earth at the equator is 40 thousand km.). Severomorsky completed their tasks in both the northern and southern hemispheres. They crossed the equator at the golden point with zero coordinates.
